Soil Percolation Test

Soil Percolation Test

Soil percolation drainage tests can be done to evaluate the drainage rate of the soil in any specific area. Knowing drainage rates can be helpful in evaluating crop growing conditions, determining which types of plants to grow, flood risks, soil moisture holding capacity, if soil is suitable for drainage water catchment basins or rain gardens, drainage beds, etc.

For home owners, drainage percolation rates are a great way to measure and determine drainage rate in your lawn or garden soil. Percolation tests can calculate drainage rates in minutes per inch (how many minutes it takes to drain one inch) or inches per hour (how many inches drain in 1 hour time intervals).
